DEMOGRAPHICS

The true Music Circle of 5ths is the Stonehenge of music theory, and works for composers like multiplication tables works for math. Musicians compose and transpose music in keys, 5 notes from the previous, either up or down the music chart. There are 12 keys in music, each a 5th [harmonic note] position from its neighbor, either up or down the music chart, in an almost exact reference to our natural time dial.

Backlit-Illuminated Music Circle of 5ths Time Dials is a new, never before introduced, novelty time dial for musicians that doubles as a reference tool for music students.

Music students and professionals worldwide will be excited to own a new concept in time dials with the practical reference to the Circle of 5ths. Music students an required to memorize the Circle of 5ths to advance as intermediate students, just like multiplication tables in math.

Advent Product Development [ Advent ] provides a product and market analysis of the Music Circle of 5ths Time Dials, which will be produced into watch and clock form, with a chime of the referenced scale at the hour indicated. Advent will register the patent, finish the design, and find a manufacturer(s) for an exclusive license agreement(e). Upon manufacture, my corporation will be paid an appropriate royalty [ est. 10% ] as owner of the Circle of 5ths Time Dials patent.

According to Advent's market analysis [ excerpts following ], a significant and high ROI with an extensive and long-term profit margin does exist. The annual niche market for the Circle of 5ths Time Dials is approximately 5% - 10% of a global market and includes (especially) music students, professionals and music audiences of all ages, races and music genre.

Approximately 4% of the nations populating plays a classic music instrument, that is, violin, guitar, piano, flute, etc. This figure amounts to some 100 Million to 500 Million consumers of music products and accessories annually. This figure does not represent audiences, which possibly doubles or triples our original account to more than One Billion consumers worldwide who may hold a potential interest in this product.

PRODUCTION PLAN

This section of the Marketability Report discusses the various aspects of producing the Musical Circle of Fifths Time Dial. It also explains the Standard Industrial Classification system (SIC), assigns appropriate SIC codes to the invention, and reviews the state of the industry that would most likely make the invention into a finished product.

MANUFACTURING

At this point we are seeking and creating the largest potential manufacturing base possible. This includes producing the Musical Circle of Fifth Time Dial where applicable, in different materials, styles, sizes and shapes-to better accommodate the various markets and their requirements. A large number of factors influence the production of a new product. Technology, material, labor and plant overhead are some of the key factors involved in arriving at a cost to produce a new product. While the Musical Circle of 5ths Time Dial is not now in production, its characteristics are not unlike existing production methodology used today to manufacture similar products. Therefore, the production would be fairly straight forward, requiring no new technology.

The materials needed to produce the Musical Circle of Fifths Time Dial are considered to be "off-the-shelf' type materials. This simply means they are readily available, competitively priced and meet the standards set by the United States government, i.e., O.S.H.A., EPA, UL, etc. In today's environment, the materials used in factories are of considerable importance. With the public awareness of clean air and clean water, the laws governing these areas are strictly enforced. Manufacturers, especially in the plastics industry, are very cautious when it comes to using materials not already environmentally approved.

TARGET MARKET

Musicians and music hobbyists are the target market for the Musical Circle of 5ths Time Dial. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are approximately 161,000 employed musicians and composers in the United States. Male musicians and composers claim 67.2 of this number, while 32.8 percent were females. The number of those employed in the profession of musicians and composers has increased almost 20,000 over the past 10 years.

Approximately six in ten households have a member which has experiences playing a musical instrmnent. In nearly half of these household, one or more person currently play an instrument.According to American Demographics, there were 62 million amateur instrumentalists, aged five and older.

The median age of an instrumentalist has remained 28 years of age since 1985. Approximately 52 percent of the instrumentalists are female. Fifty percent of households with annual incomes of $55,000 and over own a musical instrument, compared with 31 percent of those with an annual income of $25,000 and under.

Parents play an important role in the motivation of the amateur instrumentalist, as most players (85 percent) started playing between five and 14 and a large portion (36 percent) of current and former players reported parents being the motivation.

According to the U.S. Endowment for the Arts, approximately thirteen percent of all Americans attend classical music performances annually, three percent attend operas, seventeen percent attend musical plays, fourteen percent attend nonmusical plays, five percent attend ballets, and eleven percent attend jazz performances.
Approximately four percent of the nations populating play a classic music instrument!

According to American Business Lists Magazine, there are 2,157 orchestras and bands in the United States. There are approximately 20,000 symphony orchestra concerts annually, with an attendance of approximately 25 million. Gross revenue for symphony orchestra concerts totals approximately $430 million. Concert income total approximately $300 million and increased demand by Mexican consumers and increased musical instrument production requiring United States parts.

Officials of the domestic industry of musical instruments show optimism concerning continued growth. Analysts expect dealer-sponsored classes for certain insmaments will help to promote sales of that instrument. Increased participation in musical programs within the schools should contribute to an increased demand for orchestral and band instruments.

United States shipments concerning musical instruments are anticipated to show an annual increase of one percent during the next few years. A report by the Bureau of the Census states that the eight to seventeen year old age group is predicted to increase to 36.6 million, showing an increase of approximately six percent. Because this age group is the largest market age group for musical instruments, this will likely increase demand for musical products.

A high-level meeting of educators and manufacturers of musical instruments was held in Newport Beach, California. The summit, which was sponsored by the National Association of Music Merchants, covered such topics as market research and statistics, music education, and the developing global industry. The meeting was attended by representatives of nearly 100 organizations and companies from several countries, including the United States, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Germany, Italy, and Mexico.

Participants discussed the need for more reliable industry data and for common reporting standards to facilitate comparisons between countries. The recommended standards for music education that should be taught by grades 4, 8, and 12 also were discussed. The participants agreed that similar summits should be held in the future.

The Watches, Clocks, Watchcases, and Parts Industry (SIC 3873) includes establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing clocks (including electric), watches, watch cases, mechanisms for clockwork operated devices, and clock and watch parts (excluding crystals and jewels). Included in this industry are appliance timers, chronographs, timing mechanisms, time switches, and household and commercial timing mechanisms, and 'industrial timers.
